This move represents more than just a simple operational upgrade; it is a significant step in XPeng Inc.'s transformation from an "intelligent vehicle company" to a "physical AI company."
On June 10th, He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Inc., issued an internal letter announcing his decision to take direct management control of the robotics business.
In the letter, He stated: "Effective immediately, in addition to my role as CEO of the XPeng Group, I will also personally serve as the 'CEO' of the robotics business. I have made this decision because we are now at a historic inflection point—on the eve of the official mass production and commercialization of XPeng robots."
It is understood that XPeng Inc. has been developing its robotics business for three years. The initiative currently integrates comprehensive internal capabilities from across the group, including hardware, large AI models, supply chain, precision manufacturing, marketing, and sales, representing a highly complex undertaking.
XPeng Robotics has a clear and advanced strategic direction, aiming to achieve full-stack in-house R&D for both software and hardware, coupled with cross-domain integration. The company is also building its own large-scale data centers and mass production facilities.
Regarding safety, XPeng robots will feature full-body coverage, lightweight movements, and support for safety engineering protocols and data privacy protection.
He Xiaopeng likened the current moment to "the eve of the G3's mass production eight years ago." He further stated that he will devote more energy to the robotics business, mobilizing all group resources to fully transfer the accumulated capabilities in supply chain, manufacturing, quality control, and globalization from the automotive business to the robotics unit.
The goal is to deliver the IRON robot to customers with the utmost speed and highest quality.
In February of this year, construction began on XPeng's humanoid robot mass production base, covering approximately 110,000 square meters to support full-chain, large-scale manufacturing.
"Starting next year, revenue and gross profit from humanoid robot hardware and AI models will become a new growth driver for the XPeng Group," He Xiaopeng previously indicated.
