On September 20, two large trucks loaded with snacks from Wulama Food departed the Lianyuan Modern Agricultural Industrial Park, heading first to a logistics company before being shipped to several Southeast Asian countries. Relying on locally sourced agricultural products, Wulama Food has turned small snacks into a major industry, with sales surpassing 400 million yuan in the first half of this year. This serves as a vivid example of how Lianyuan is leveraging its dominant grain and vegetable sectors to expand and strengthen its modern agricultural industrial park.

The busy production floor inside Wulama Food's workshop highlights the park's vitality. In May 2024, Lianyuan was successfully approved as one of only two counties (cities) in Hunan Province to establish a national-level modern agricultural industrial park. To capitalize on this initiative and boost the park's capabilities, Lianyuan set up a dedicated leadership group and management committee for the national park project. The city also established robust mechanisms for diversified investment, talent and technology recruitment, market expansion, and technological innovation, providing financial support for the local commercialization of research outcomes and invention patents, along with various rewards and subsidies for talent. Through these multi-pronged efforts, the park has risen strongly.

In 2025, the park's total output value reached 11.007 billion yuan, with leading industries contributing 6.969 billion yuan, accounting for 63.31%. Per capita disposable income for farmers hit 24,000 yuan, 35% higher than the city's average. More than 28,000 people are employed in the park's leading industries. Lianyuan is committed to building a strong agricultural city, focusing on ensuring stable and secure supply of major agricultural products. Aiming for high-quality modern agricultural development, the city is constructing a development framework that is scientifically sound, land-efficient, smart and efficient, green and safe, with robust safeguards. Following the "production plus processing plus technology plus marketing" industrial chain model, and adhering to an eco-first, green-development approach, the city is aggregating resources, integrating factors, and promoting integrated development across production, processing, sales, trade, industry, and agriculture. It is also advancing moderate-scale operations to improve agricultural quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. The total investment stands at 1.8 billion yuan, including 100 million yuan in central incentive funds, over 200 million yuan in consolidated funds, and more than 1.5 billion yuan from private capital.

The green and eco-friendly Qiaotouhe vegetable base exemplifies this sustainable approach. The Lianyuan National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park spans six townships and sub-districts—Fengping, Yangshi, Anping, Longtang, Qiaotouhe, and Shimas-han—covering an area of 809,000 mu. The functional layout is structured as "one axis, two cores, and three zones." The axis is the modern agricultural development corridor. The two cores are the agricultural and sideline products processing park in the high-tech zone and the Qiaotouhe comprehensive modern agricultural park, which house deep processing, cold-chain logistics, and R&D functions. The three zones consist of high-yield demonstration plots for double-cropping rice and rice-oilseed rape rotation, a demonstration zone for rice-vegetable rotation, and an automated radish production demonstration zone.

Today, the integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries is deepening. Rice and radish are cultivated on over 700,000 mu and 100,000 mu annually, respectively. The city now has 99 leading agricultural industrialization enterprises, including 2 national-level, 13 provincial-level, and 84 Loudi city-level ones. A complete industrial chain has been formed, spanning breeding, post-harvest primary processing, deep processing of rice, rice noodles, fresh vegetables, prepared dishes, and leisure snacks, along with both online and offline sales. This has pushed the industry from simple farming and breeding toward comprehensive full-chain coverage, achieving a thorough upgrade of the agricultural value chain. Anchored by leading enterprises like Wulama Food, the park is developing its food processing sector to boost the added value of agricultural products. Through deep processing and branding, local produce is being introduced to broader markets. Currently, the park hosts 20 above-scale agricultural product processing enterprises, including Hunan Xiaolaoye and Qifunian, integrating crop cultivation, deep processing, cold-chain storage, and sales distribution. This has resulted in 30 series of processed products, such as premium rice and dried vegetables, effectively elevating product value.
