According to recent media reports, Wang Jun, former Vice President and CTO of Zebra Smart Mobility, has joined BYD Company Limited's intelligent cockpit team. He will be responsible for cockpit architecture and map development, reporting to Li Feng, Director of the Intelligent Software Development Center.
BYD Company Limited is currently investing in the development of integrated cockpit and driving assistance products. To advance cockpit-driving integration, BYD consolidated its assisted driving and intelligent cockpit teams under the Automotive New Technology Research Institute in April this year, with Li Feng overseeing software development for both business areas.
Yang Dongsheng, Senior Vice President and Head of Intelligence at BYD Company Limited, stated in late July that the company will launch One-Board products (integrating cockpit and assisted driving chips on the same PCB board), noting that "it may happen very soon."
In the assisted driving business, BYD Company Limited already has a team of nearly 5,000 people. Several senior technical talents have recently joined from leading new energy vehicle companies and assisted driving firms. This recruitment drive likely supports the development of advanced features for the "Eyes of God" assisted driving system's B and A platforms, as well as VLA capabilities.
BYD Company Limited has structured its "Eyes of God" assisted driving system into three platforms based on computing power and configuration: The A platform features two NVIDIA Orin-X chips and three LiDAR units, primarily for the Yangwang brand; the B platform includes 1-2 LiDAR units and a single Orin-X chip, mainly for Denza and BYD Company Limited brands; and the C platform uses NVIDIA Orin-N or Horizon Journey 6 chips for Dynasty and Ocean models, enabling navigation-assisted driving on highways and urban expressways with the broadest application scope.
Previously, BYD Company Limited planned to mass-produce the Eyes of God B platform in 2025 and launch urban navigation-assisted driving features based on "end-to-end" architecture, potentially extending coverage to vehicles priced below 200,000 yuan. According to a person involved in the development, current progress meets expectations.
For the most widely applied Eyes of God C platform, BYD Company Limited is also developing MNOA (Memory Navigation on Autopilot) solutions based on high-frequency routes such as urban commuting, expected to be rolled out this year.
BYD Company Limited is also exploring more advanced technological pathways. Regarding the VLA (Vision-Language-Action Model) architecture currently adopted by companies like Li Auto, XPeng, and DeepRoute.ai, Yang Dongsheng noted that BYD Company Limited is in the small team and preliminary research stage, with mass production timing depending on VLA's metrics, performance, and user experience.
As the electric vehicle advantage gradually narrows, BYD Company Limited hopes to maintain scale through intelligence, deploying advanced assisted driving features earlier and at lower price points than competitors. In the first eight months of this year, the company sold a cumulative 2.864 million vehicles, still some distance from its year-end target.
