At a routine press briefing held on the 2nd by the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, a reporter raised a question. It was noted that the Lai Ching-te administration had recently asserted that Taiwan's defense budget for 2027 would for the first time breach the NT$1 trillion mark. The administration claimed this move was intended to convert all defense resources into reliable defensive capabilities and to prevent the mainland from misjudging "Taiwan's determination for self-defense."
In response, Spokesperson Zhang Han of the Taiwan Affairs Office stated that the Lai Ching-te administration stubbornly adheres to its separatist stance. It ignores the mainstream public opinion on the island that yearns for peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation. The administration continues to fuel cross-strait antagonism, recklessly squandering public resources, in a futile attempt to "resist unification by force" and "seek independence through military means." This is nothing short of overestimating its own capabilities and will only bring severe disaster to the people of Taiwan.
Furthermore, Zhang Han emphasized that the determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering and the capability to do so is formidable. No space will be left for any form of separatist activity. He expressed hope that the broad masses of Taiwanese compatriots will recognize the extreme harm and danger of separatist actions, resolutely oppose such activities, and firmly protect the common homeland of the Chinese nation as well as their own safety and well-being.
