According to a report by The Information, citing three sources familiar with the matter, the United States is close to finalizing a voluntary framework that would require AI companies to submit their most advanced models to the government for review before public release.

Roughly two weeks ago, the White House Office of the National Cyber Director circulated the draft framework to OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google .

The three companies jointly submitted their individual modification suggestions.

The report noted that key details on how the model review process will operate remain unknown.

Previously, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent participated in drafting a proposal to create an independent AI regulatory body modeled after the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), funded by the industry and reporting to the SEC, allowing both the tech and financial sectors to participate in setting safety standards.

This proposal emerged against the backdrop of Anthropic and OpenAI having publicly expressed dissatisfaction over government intervention in their model release processes.
