Alphabet's experimental division has introduced a new app called Dreambeans, which leverages artificial intelligence to synthesize data from various services like Gmail, Calendar, and Photos to create daily, personalized stories for users. The goal is to help users move away from endless scrolling and focus on the people and events that truly matter to them.
Currently, the application is available exclusively to Alphabet AI Ultra subscribers in the United States who are 18 years or older, and it is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms. Users who are not subscribers can join a waitlist through the official website.
The company has emphasized that privacy choices within Dreambeans are separate and do not affect the Personal Intelligence settings users have in other products like Gemini.
The launch of Dreambeans represents the latest step in Alphabet's ongoing expansion within the AI personal assistant and content aggregation space, and it serves as a key differentiator for its AI Ultra subscription service.
Utilizing Advanced AI to Generate Custom Daily Narratives
Dreambeans' core functionality is built on Alphabet's latest AI technologies, including the Personal Intelligence feature and the Nano Banana 2 model.
With user permission, the app can access data from Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, YouTube, and search history to build a personalized content recommendation framework.
The daily stories are not presented as an infinite scroll but as a limited set of content pieces, each accompanied by custom illustrations generated based on the user's frequent locations and common contacts.
Alphabet states the design philosophy is to help users concentrate on what they genuinely care about, rather than falling into a cycle of passive information consumption.
The company provided a specific use case to illustrate the app's operation: when a user receives a delivery confirmation email for pet snacks, Dreambeans can automatically link this information and proactively suggest pet training tips. It can also combine this with a friend's visit reminder from the calendar to recommend nearby pet-friendly restaurants.
Users can click on stories of interest for deeper exploration. The app can also pull publicly available web information to aid decision-making, such as providing directions to the nearest dog park or suggesting pet training courses. Users can save preferred content to a personal library for later review.
Access Restricted to AI Ultra Subscribers
Dreambeans is currently in an experimental phase, managed by Alphabet's experimental labs. The first wave of access is granted to eligible Alphabet AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. who are at least 18 years old, with support for Android and iOS.
Non-subscribers can use their personal Google account to join a waitlist via the official website for potential future access.
The app includes a feedback mechanism, allowing users to correct inaccurate or irrelevant recommendations or add new interest tags, such as a recently developed hobby. The system will use this input to refine future content generation.
For data connectivity, the app requires access to at least one Google product to function, but users have full control over which specific applications are connected.
Alphabet reiterates that the privacy settings within Dreambeans are isolated and do not interfere with a user's Personal Intelligence settings in other products like Gemini Apps or AI Mode.
