The results of the 2025 supervisory inspection on the quality of gasoline engine oil products circulating in Hainan Province have been released. During the fourth quarter of 2025, the Hainan Provincial Market Regulation Administration conducted inspections on gasoline engine oil products available in the market. A total of 19 product batches were sampled. Laboratory tests identified 2 batches as non-compliant, resulting in a non-compliance rate of 10.53%. The inspection was carried out according to standards including GB 11121-2006, evaluating the following parameters: low-temperature dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity, viscosity index, pour point, water content, foaming characteristics (foam tendency/stability), mechanical impurities, flash point (open cup), high-temperature high-shear viscosity, and phosphorus content. No safety-related indicators were found to be non-compliant. However, 2 batches failed to meet performance requirements. The specific non-compliant items were kinematic viscosity (at 100°C) and low-temperature dynamic viscosity. Failure to meet the kinematic viscosity (100°C) standard can lead to increased friction between piston rings and cylinder walls, accelerating wear. This may also compromise engine sealing, potentially causing oil burning, reduced functionality of valve seals, and in severe cases, damage to the positive crankcase ventilation valve. It can also result in instant excessive heat generation during operation, affecting heat dissipation. Low-temperature dynamic viscosity is a critical indicator of lubricant performance, directly impacting engine start-up capability and operational smoothness in cold environments. Failure to meet this standard can cause difficulties during cold starts and may affect the engine's service life. Ensuring compliance with low-temperature dynamic viscosity standards is therefore essential for safeguarding engine performance and consumer safety. The non-compliant products identified in this inspection will be handed over to the local market regulatory authorities where the inspected entities and the claimed manufacturers are located for processing according to law.
