Microsoft Backs Anthropic in Legal Clash with Pentagon Over AI Contracts

Microsoft has filed a document with the U.S. District Court in San Francisco expressing support for Anthropic. The company is urging the court to issue a temporary restraining order to prevent the Pentagon from designating the AI firm as a supply chain risk for "all existing contracts."

In the filing, Microsoft stated that such an order would "help facilitate a more orderly transition and avoid disruption to the U.S. military's continued use of advanced AI."

Microsoft warned that without the restraining order, the company and other tech firms would need to "take immediate action to alter existing product and contract configurations used by the War Department." The document added, "This could impair U.S. warfighters at a critical time."
