周五发布的现有住房销售报告显示，11月销售较上月增长了0.5%，低于《华尔街日报》预测的0.7%增幅，但仍处于该指标历史预测范围之内。

对于包括现有房屋销售报告在内的多个经济指标，道琼斯新闻社开始测量政府统计数据是否超出《华尔街日报》历史预测的范围，以及超出多少。这些预测区间基于过去十年《华尔街日报》进行的经济学家调查档案。
该指标提供了一种测量特定指标相对波动性的方法，不仅与指标发布前几天的当代预测相比，也与其历年来让预测者感到意外的记录进行比较。
就11月现有房屋销售而言，在过去10年中，《华尔街日报》预测的范围与实际报告的数字相比，波动在-1.5个百分点至+1.9个百分点之间。周五的月度变化比0.7%的预期低了0.2个百分点，但仍在该范围之内。
对于年度销售率，历史预测范围为-80,000至+90,000套房屋销售，相较于预测，周五的数字413万套与经济学家预期相符。
这些范围由低于报告数字的历史预测的中位数和高于报告数字的预测的中位数组成。
