One out of every three automotive glass panels globally comes from Fujian, one out of every five sports shoes is "Made in Fujian," and CATL holds the world's largest market share for power batteries... In the first half of this year, Fujian Province's gross regional product grew 5.7% year-on-year, 0.4 percentage points higher than the national average; the province achieved total retail sales of consumer goods of 1.256 trillion yuan, up 6% year-on-year.
With green as the foundation and prosperity through green development, the land of Fujian is lush with greenery in August. Recently, following a themed research tour, observers noted that Fujian is using its industrial prowess to paint a vibrant picture of consumption upgrades and high-quality economic development.
**Industrial Business Cards Shine Brighter**
Standing on an intelligent scanning platform, foot measurements are captured in just 15 seconds through 3D data collection; within merely two hours, a pair of custom-made shoes tailored to the consumer's feet rolls off the production line... At Shuangchi Technology Co., Ltd.'s custom factory in Putian, Fujian, this remarkable scene unfolds before visitors.
"Moreover, our system can utilize AI technology to intelligently analyze the tester's foot characteristics and match appropriate insoles for consumers," said Gu Weiming, project manager of Shuangchi Technology's customization division.
In recent years, Shuangchi Technology has been committed to promoting the transformation and upgrading of Putian's footwear industry, bringing "custom-fitted shoes" to ordinary households. As a pillar and advantageous industry in Putian, the city's footwear sector now relies on "intelligent manufacturing" to make this business card shine even brighter.
"Our direction should be to utilize digital technology for mass customization and factory-based customization," said Chen Qixian, chief expert of the Putian Footwear Industry Association, revealing the secret behind Putian's footwear industry transformation and upgrading.
Like Shuangchi, more and more Putian footwear companies are moving toward customization and intelligent manufacturing. Behind this trend, the Putian government continues to release policy dividends, working to promote high-quality development of the footwear industry.
In recent years, to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the footwear and apparel industry, Putian has adopted a strategic orientation of "branding, intelligence, and differentiation." Through registering the "Putian Shoes" collective trademark, integrating local quality footwear enterprise resources, building a brand matrix, and systematically enhancing enterprises' independent brand-building capabilities and market competitiveness.
Furthermore, technological empowerment has given wings to Putian's footwear industry takeoff—the promotion and application of new models such as collective procurement platforms, intelligent manufacturing, and inclusive finance have injected surging momentum into industrial upgrading; the establishment of industry-academia-research platforms like the Putian Footwear and Apparel Industry Research Institute provides sustainable talent guarantees for technological innovation.
A series of figures serve as vivid footnotes to Putian's footwear industry development. According to statistics, in 2024, Putian's footwear and apparel industry completed scale production value exceeding 100 billion yuan, with industrial added value growing 8.7% year-on-year. Shoe production accounts for nearly 30% of Fujian Province and nearly 10% of the national total.
**Brand Leadership Drives Consumption Wave**
Entering Want Want Foods' smart factory in Jinjiang, intelligent production lines operate at high speed, with the entire process from material input, baking to packaging being transparent and traceable.
"Mixing, molding, proofing, baking... bread comes out after seven processes," Want Want Foods' deputy production manager Lu Xiaojun explained. "Currently, we achieve zero human contact throughout all seven processes through 5G + IoT technology. Technical personnel can not only monitor production processes in real-time but also accurately grasp changes in temperature, humidity, and other conditions."
As a leading enterprise in Jinjiang's food industry, Want Want Foods continues to drive brand upgrades through innovation. In 2023, the company actively deployed 5G smart factories and green factories, promoting food manufacturing toward "intelligent manufacturing." Through deep integration of digitalization, standardization, and intelligence, it leads traditional snack food enterprises toward green and healthy trends.
High brand competitiveness stems partly from "intelligent manufacturing" leadership and partly from technological empowerment. Want Want Foods Chairman Cai Jin'ang stated that they collaborate with suppliers to establish R&D laboratories, build consumer databases, and create various healthy foods. Now over 50 new products emerge annually, and the enterprise owns 31 invention patents, 109 utility patents, and 266 design patents.
In 2024, Want Want Foods was selected for the first batch of China's Famous Consumer Products list. Want Want's breakthrough path exemplifies Quanzhou's efforts to promote traditional industry transformation toward branding and fashion.
"We strive to guide enterprises to create new demands through innovative supply, cultivate new consumption formats and models, inject new vitality into the market, and more precisely meet consumers' increasingly upgraded and diversified demands," said Chen Chuanfang, Deputy Director of Quanzhou's Bureau of Industry and Information Technology.
**Service Engine Accelerates Industrial Growth**
Lithium batteries flow orderly from intelligent production lines—they are not only the "heart" of electric vehicles but also shining business cards of China's high-end manufacturing industry going global... In CATL's exhibition hall, precise batteries attract visitors' attention.
As a globally leading new energy innovation technology company, CATL's power battery usage ranked first globally in 2024, with a market share of 37.9%, serving over 19.25 million vehicles and selling to 66 countries and regions.
"CATL's Qilin battery achieves system energy density as high as 255Wh/kg, enabling electric vehicles to easily achieve 1,000-kilometer range and significantly alleviating range anxiety," introduced Wu Zhenhua, Chief Technology Officer for CATL's domestic passenger vehicle division.
Beyond its solid technology, CATL's rapid development is inseparable from strong support from Ningde's municipal party committee and government.
As the world's lithium battery capital, Ningde consistently adheres to the approach of "leading dragons, extending chains, and building clusters" to cultivate and strengthen the lithium battery new energy industry. It optimizes the business environment through multiple measures and has successively introduced policies such as "Seven Measures to Promote Ningde's Lithium Battery New Energy Industry Chain Development (Revised)" and "Six Measures to Promote New Energy Vehicle Industry Development."
"These policies provide support through preferential industrial land use and reducing enterprise electricity costs, promoting high-quality development of the new energy battery industry cluster," said Zheng Jiazhi, second-level researcher at Ningde Municipal Party Committee's Publicity Department.
Moreover, Ningde brings services directly to enterprises. The new energy working group assigns dedicated personnel to be stationed permanently at leading enterprises, maintaining real-time awareness of enterprise difficulties and needs, combining points and areas, implementing classified policies, and solving problems promptly. In Fuding, the lithium battery base completed approval for 2,064 acres of land use in just seven days and completed land acquisition work for over 8,000 acres in only 66 days, achieving negotiation, signing, and production in the same year.
Under this series of combined measures, Ningde's new energy industry has achieved rapid development—in 2024, the lithium battery new energy industry had 70 above-scale industrial enterprises, completing output value of 250.8 billion yuan; in the first half of 2025, above-scale industrial enterprises in the lithium battery new energy industry completed output value of 147 billion yuan, up 27.3% year-on-year.
From the mountains and seas of eastern Fujian to global markets, Fujian is writing China's green manufacturing legend with surging momentum. Sanming's innovative practices in forestry carbon sequestration have turned "selling air" from vision to reality, injecting fresh vitality into the green economy. Green development has not only enhanced ecological "beauty" but also ignited consumption vitality—new energy vehicle purchases in Xiamen account for over half of total purchases, while cultural tourism, health and wellness, and green retail sectors flourish. The consumer market across Fujian becomes more "prosperous" because of "green."
This surging momentum connects ecology with economy, lighting up the vast ocean of stars for sustainable development...
