Meta Platforms, Inc. plans to install new tracking software on the computers of its US-based employees to capture mouse movements, clicks, and keystrokes for the purpose of training its artificial intelligence models, according to an internal memo seen by media. The tool will operate across a range of work-related applications and websites. The memo also indicated that the software will periodically take screenshots of employee screens to provide additional context. The initiative aims to help the company enhance its AI models in areas that currently need improvement, such as navigating dropdown menus and utilizing keyboard shortcuts. Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, stated that the collected data will not be used for performance evaluations or any purpose other than model training, and that security measures have been implemented to protect sensitive information.
