JD.com Enters Hong Kong's Insurance Market with Broker License Approval

JD.com is making its foray into Hong Kong's insurance industry.

On October 23, it was confirmed through information on the website of the Hong Kong Insurance Authority that JD's subsidiary, Jingda HK Trading Co., Limited, was granted an insurance broker license on October 14, enabling it to operate general and long-term businesses, including linked long-term insurance. The company is led by Lam Che Chuen.

Furthermore, two days after obtaining the insurance broker license, Jingda HK Trading Co., Limited changed its name to JD Insurance Consulting (Hong Kong) Limited on October 16. The shareholder of the company is JD Innovation Information Technology Co., Ltd., and its director is Zhang Li. Reports indicate that Zhang Li is also the Vice President of JD Group and heads the Beauty Department of JD Retail’s Fashion Business Group.

Prior to this, there had been reports that JD.com was applying for an insurance license in Hong Kong. Recently, JD has listed several positions for its Hong Kong insurance team on recruitment platforms, including Compliance Head (Hong Kong), Insurance Sales Promoter, and Operations Director.
