The second of two readings of the consumer sentiment survey in April improved to 52.2 in late April from 50.8 earlier in the month, after the partial pause in tariffs, the University of Michigan said Friday. Despite the improvement, it is still the weakest sentiment reading in 32 months.

Sentiment has fallen for four straight months. It was 57 in March. The deterioration in middle-income families was particularly strong this month.
