According to the Wall Street Journal, Anthropic has reached a $35‑billion cloud‑computing agreement with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, according to people familiar with the transaction, with Nvidia holding the lease rights to the underlying data center.
The facility is being built by Hut 8, a former bitcoin miner‑turned‑data‑center developer, in Nueces County, Texas. Nvidia locked in the compute resources weeks ago via a contract signed with Hut 8, sources said.
The layered arrangement underscores Nvidia’s growing role in enabling AI firms such as Anthropic, which carries non‑investment‑grade credit ratings, to secure costly computing capacity. The deal also allows emerging cloud player Lambda to land the major Anthropic contract without owning its own data‑center premises. Lambda will deploy Nvidia‑sourced chips inside Hut 8’s under‑construction campus, while Nvidia remains an investor in Lambda. It is unclear how much Lambda will pay Nvidia to occupy the data‑center site.
