Beyond "Quan Li Hotel": Multiple Booking Platforms Feature "You Ting," "Xi Kan," and "Ya Duo" Hotels

On May 7, topics such as "Quan Li Hotel has been renamed" and "Quan Li Hotel has been removed from multiple platforms" trended online. Observant netizens noted that numerous hotels named "You Ting Hotel" exist across the country, with their store names and exterior photos bearing a striking resemblance to H World Group's "Hanting Hotel."

Multiple locations have reported the presence of "You Ting Hotel." Searches on various hotel booking platforms confirm the existence of these hotels, whose names and facade images are highly similar to H World Group's Hanting Hotel. Some hotels even uploaded exterior photos still displaying the "Hanting Hotel" signage.

On the afternoon of May 7, staff at a "You Ting Hotel" in Yushu City, Qinghai Province, informed reporters that the hotel was originally a "Hanting Hotel" but is no longer part of H World Group and now operates independently. A "You Ting Hotel" in Jinan City, Shandong Province, also stated that it ceased affiliation with H World Group last year, with "You Ting Hotel" being its new name under independent management. The storefront of this Jinan location remains highly similar to that of a Hanting Hotel.

Additionally, "You Ting Hotels" have appeared in cities such as Nanjing, Shanghai, and Chuzhou. When contacted posing as a consumer, H World Group's online customer service stated that "H World currently does not have a brand named You Ting Hotel."

Questions arise regarding whether former franchisees, after terminating cooperation, changing their names to "Quan Li Hotel" or "You Ting Hotel"—highly similar to well-known brands like "Quanj" and "Hanting"—constitute infringement, potentially mislead consumers, and whether H World Group bears any regulatory responsibility.

Fu Jian, director of Henan Zejin Law Firm, believes franchise contracts typically stipulate that franchisees cannot use the brand's IP after termination. If former franchisees continue using confusingly similar trademarks, misleading consumers, it infringes on consumers' right to know under the Consumer Rights Protection Law and violates the brand's trademark rights, constituting混淆 acts and unfair competition.

Chen Liang, director of Hubei Haolv Law Firm, noted that after a franchise hotel terminates its contract with H World Group, H World has the right to demand fundamental changes from the franchisee. However, if H World does not make such demands, it does not violate the law. Liability for consumer actions based on misleading information should rest with the original franchise hotel.

Further reading reveals other similarly named hotels beyond "Quan Li Hotel," including "You Ting Hotel," "Xi Kan Hotel," "Zhe Fei Hotel," and "Ya Duo Hotel." Recent reports highlighted a hotel in Dalian named "Quan Li," accused of mimicking "Quanj Hotel," garnering significant attention. By May 7, the hotel had been renamed "Huayu Hotel" on multiple booking platforms.

Searches on a hotel booking platform show several hotels nationwide with names closely resembling other知名 hotel brands. Examples include a "You Ting" hotel in Tianchang, Anhui, similar to "Hanting Hotel"; a "Xi Kan" hotel in Xining, Qinghai, similar to "Xi'an Hotel"; a "Zhe Fei" hotel in Xining, Qinghai, similar to "Zhefei Hotel"; and a "Ya Duo" hotel in Lingshui, Hainan, similar to "Yaduo Hotel."
