Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM.US) reported a 30% year-over-year increase in third-quarter sales, driven by continued multi-billion dollar investments in artificial intelligence (AI) by major U.S. technology companies. Based on the company's monthly sales data, revenue for the three months ending September totaled NT$989.9 billion (approximately $32.5 billion), surpassing analysts' average forecast of NT$962.8 billion. Benefiting from sustained market optimism around AI, shares of Asia's most valuable company have gained over 30% year-to-date.

As a core semiconductor manufacturer, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing serves as the preferred partner for leading AI accelerator designers including NVIDIA (NVDA.US), AMD (AMD.US), and Broadcom (AVGO.US), while also producing processors for Apple's (AAPL.US) iPhones and other devices. Despite sluggish growth in consumer electronics markets, the company has significantly enhanced per-chip profitability through its transition to more advanced process technologies.

In the AI sector, U.S. technology companies from NVIDIA to OpenAI are investing billions of dollars to expand cloud computing capabilities—a trend that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's management views as a key driver of long-term growth. While some observers worry that recent "circular trading" arrangements among these companies could create substantial bubbles, the chipmaker's latest sales figures indicate that demand for AI-related semiconductors remains robust.

The semiconductor manufacturing giant is scheduled to release its complete third-quarter financial report on October 16.
