Storage Sector Stocks Surge at Hong Kong Market Open Amid AI-Driven Demand and Global Peers Hitting Record Highs

Storage-related stocks opened significantly higher in the Hong Kong market. At the time of writing, the Leveraged Fund Tracking SK Hynix (07709) rose 14.98% to HKD 90.24. Montage Tech (06809) gained 14.75% to HKD 431. GIGADEVICE (03986) advanced 9.18% to HKD 535. The Leveraged Fund Tracking Samsung Electronics (07747) increased by 6.19% to HKD 147.55. The surge is attributed to the artificial intelligence boom fueling massive storage demand, sustaining robust momentum in the global memory chip market. Last Friday, the U.S. memory chip sector witnessed another collective rally. SanDisk soared over 16%, Micron Technology jumped over 15%, and Seagate Technology climbed over 2%, with all three companies' share prices reaching new record highs. This morning, in the South Korean market, SK Hynix's stock price surged over 10% at one point, while Samsung Electronics rose over 7%, both setting new historical highs. Analysts at Goldman Sachs noted, "The prospect of sustained high profitability in the memory semiconductor industry suggests the market has misjudged the durability of earnings." According to TrendForce, the contract price for general-purpose DRAM in Q1 2026 is estimated to surge 90%-95% quarter-over-quarter, with a further increase of 58%-63% expected in Q2. The contract price for NAND flash memory in Q1 is projected to rise 55%-60% quarter-over-quarter, with an anticipated increase of 70%-75% in Q2. Furthermore, the capital expenditure forecasts for the world's nine largest cloud service providers (CSPs) in 2026 have been revised upward to $830 billion, with the annual growth rate adjusted from 61% to 79%. CITIC Securities believes that the storage price hikes since March confirm the sector's high景气度. The firm anticipates that the supply-demand imbalance will persist until 2027, with price increases continuing throughout 2026, maintaining a firm positive outlook on the storage industry trend.
