According to informed sources, cinema chain operator Imax Corp is exploring a potential sale and has initiated discussions with several entertainment companies. Sources indicate that the process is currently in its early stages, and there is no guarantee a transaction will be finalized. Imax CEO Rich Gelfond stated during an investor day last December that Imax is an "extremely valuable participant, whether as a fully differentiated public company or as part of a larger entity." For the first quarter of this year, the cinema chain operator reported revenue of $81.4 million, a 6% decline year-over-year, yet surpassing analyst expectations of $80.28 million. Imax achieved a record domestic box office market share of 5.2% in the US last year, up from 4.5% in the previous year. Its global market share also increased from 3.1% to 3.8%.
