Nubia's NaviX Ultra, powered by the consumer version of the Doubao assistant, officially went on sale this afternoon. Positioned as an AI agent smartphone, its launch marks the transition of this product category from engineering prototypes to large-scale commercial production. Nubia has defined four core capabilities for the device—"understanding, action, memory, and security"—in an attempt to establish a clear boundary for what an AI agent phone can achieve.

What the Four Capabilities Entail

In terms of understanding, the phone features the industry's only fingerprint-activated AI button, enabling one-touch wake-up. During real-time calls, it integrates the Seed full-duplex voice model, allowing users to interrupt and engage in continuous conversation rather than the traditional question-and-answer format. Speech recognition covers more than ten dialects, including Hokkien, Hakka, Shanghainese, and Cantonese, as well as multiple languages like English. It can accurately interpret commands even in noisy environments, with accented speech, or during multi-person conversations. Leveraging a multimodal model, the device also supports on-screen queries and can comprehend real-time video content through video calls.

For action, a single voice command can trigger tasks such as sending Feishu messages or scheduling meetings. It can also handle multi-step operations like summarizing group chats, checking to-do lists, and forwarding documents in a coherent sequence, with the ability to insert new instructions at any time. Tasks continue to run even when the screen is locked. The phone also integrates third-party services for travel, music, and maps, with ongoing expansion of available interfaces. A new work-task mode enables one-sentence generation of code, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The recording-to-notes feature incorporates Feishu Miaoji's capabilities, with performance claimed to rival standalone recording hardware. Relying on model reasoning, the NaviX Ultra can break down complex commands, autonomously plan execution steps, and handle long-chain operations spanning hundreds of steps over tens of minutes. With shortcut and automatic commands, it can also trigger preset tasks based on conditions like time or location.

On memory, with user authorization, the phone retains preferences and habits that users actively share, building a personalized memory bank. Users can say "remember this" or swipe up with three fingers to manually save current screen content, enabling one-time storage and anytime retrieval. Once enabled, natural language queries can also access local information.

For security, the lock-screen policy is part of this framework, with the fingerprint AI button also serving as a security authentication tool. Nubia emphasizes that all intelligent agent operations run within user authorization and the system's security framework, complying with third-party privacy management system certifications and meeting international standards.

What the Four Capabilities Correspond To

Nubia has further distilled these capabilities into four dimensions: response, execution, memory, and security. Response means users don't need to adapt to specific phrasing—the phone understands natural expressions. Execution means the phone doesn't just provide answers but actually completes tasks for the user. Memory means users don't have to repeat themselves, as the phone can learn preferences with authorization. Security means all capabilities are built on a foundation of privacy protection.

At the launch event, Ni Fei, President of ZTE's Terminal Division and Nubia, reviewed the brand's AI journey, from the 2017 Nubia Z17 to the AI-native Nubia M153, and now to the mass-produced NaviX Ultra. He stated that market and user feedback has reinforced the team's confidence in the direction of agent phones, and Nubia will continue to pursue diversified partnerships with an open mindset.
