Food Delivery Riders Get Stylish New Uniforms as Platforms Upgrade Gear

Major food delivery platforms have recently rolled out fresh uniform designs for their riders.

Social media users noted that JD.com's delivery team has debuted a striking red racing-style outfit covered in detachable ad patches. However, sources close to JD.com clarified that this viral design is merely one prototype from internal testing, not the official release. The company had already introduced motorcycle-inspired uniforms for full-time riders in March, with plans to further enhance functionality and aesthetics through tech-integrated upgrades.

Earlier, Taobao's uniform refresh drew attention when its flash delivery service Ele.me launched autumn-themed racing suits on August 25. Active riders received complimentary full sets including jackets, helmets, and insulated food containers as temperatures dropped.

Ele.me explained its replacement program: corporate riders in direct-operation cities get free four-piece gear sets, while partner riders can exchange old blue equipment for new items or qualify for discounts. Only corporate riders are mandated to wear the uniforms during deliveries.

Meanwhile, Meituan-W (03690.HK) began distributing redesigned workwear in May 2025, eliminating back advertisements and upgrading fabrics to outdoor-performance materials for better breathability (summer) and windproof warmth (winter). Initial batches sold out rapidly via rider e-stores and physical stations, with restocks planned.

For winter preparedness, Meituan has deployed nearly 1 million cold-weather items—including thermal jackets, leather riding gear, and protective accessories—across 165 Chinese cities. Over 52,000 rider stations now offer hand warmers and hot beverages, with summer cooling zones converted to heated drink areas. The company also introduced 3 million "extreme cold insurance" policies covering weather-related medical expenses for riders.
