Sichuan province has introduced ten major hydrogen application scenarios, spanning hydrogen-powered highway logistics, urban buses, rail transit, and two-wheelers, to integrated hydrogen-ammonia-methanol production, demonstrations of hydrogen-blended natural gas combustion, multi-energy supply systems for high-altitude regions, distributed power generation with emergency backup, hydrogen-powered drones, and low-altitude economy applications. This forms a multi-dimensional hydrogen application system covering transportation, industry, civil use, energy, and emerging sectors.

In the transportation sector, Sichuan will leverage highways such as Chengdu-Chongqing, Chengdu-Nanchong, and Chengdu-Ya'an to connect green hydrogen routes including the "Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor," "Sichuan-Tibet Line," "Panzhihua-Xichang-Ya'an-Chengdu," "Chengdu-Deyang-Mianyang-Guangyuan," and "Chengdu-Deyang-Meishan-Ziyang," thereby densifying the hydrogen refueling network and establishing cross-regional logistics channels for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. Hydrogen fuel cell buses will be promoted in cities including Chengdu, Deyang, and Guangyuan and their surrounding areas to develop zero-carbon bus routes. Building on the transition to new energy for railway diesel locomotives, hydrogen-powered locomotives will be piloted on existing railway lines or new suburban railways in Panzhihua, Chengdu, and Neijiang. Hydrogen-powered two-wheelers will be promoted in Chengdu, Guang'an, and Ganzi, with over 10,000 units already deployed in the Chengdu market. Leveraging Sichuan's complex terrain and abundant agricultural and forestry settings, hydrogen-powered drones will be deployed for emergency rescue, logistics distribution, and crop protection, opening up new opportunities in the low-altitude economy.

In the industrial and energy sectors, Sichuan will utilize abundant hydro, solar, and wind resources in Panzhihua and Liangshan to develop integrated green hydrogen and hydrogen-ammonia-methanol projects, extending to downstream products such as sustainable aviation fuel. In Panzhihua, Neijiang, and Chengdu, existing projects in steel, cement, and chemical industries will pilot hydrogen-based metallurgy and clean hydrogen substitution, exploring pathways for large-scale hydrogen utilization. Building on the industrial base in Chengdu, Panzhihua, and Meishan and the province's natural gas pipeline infrastructure, hydrogen-blended combustion technology will be promoted in both industrial and residential sectors to explore carbon reduction pathways through hydrogen-natural gas synergy, creating new scenarios for large-scale green hydrogen consumption.

In civil and specialized applications, Sichuan will deploy multi-energy supply systems in high-altitude regions like Ganzi and Aba, utilizing solar and wind resources to meet local needs for oxygen, heating, and electricity, establishing a model for hydrogen applications in high-altitude livelihoods. In industrial parks, communities, data centers, and communication base stations in Chengdu, Panzhihua, and Ya'an, demonstrations of hydrogen-based combined heat and power and emergency backup power will be conducted to support the development of "zero-carbon industrial parks."

Sichuan has consistently strengthened support for hydrogen industry development in recent years, issuing the "Sichuan Province Action Plan for Further Promoting Hydrogen Industry Chain Development and Application (2024–2027)" and the "Sichuan Province Medium- and Long-Term Hydrogen Industry Development Plan (2025–2035)." These policies address challenges such as high comprehensive costs, insufficient large-scale application, inflexible policy mechanisms, and missing standards, achieving breakthroughs in areas including hydrogen project approvals, on-site hydrogen production, toll-free highway access, and grid interaction, while providing substantial financial subsidies, resource guarantees, and financial support.

Through years of effort, Sichuan has become a national leader in hydrogen technology, products, and application scale, with strong innovation capabilities and a cultivated ecosystem of leading enterprises in technology R&D, equipment manufacturing, testing, and demonstration applications. The event also featured a ceremony marking the enhancement of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor and the completion of the "Panzhihua-Xichang-Ya'an-Chengdu" and "Chengdu-Deyang-Mianyang-Guangyuan" green hydrogen routes. The Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor, initially completed in 2021, continues to be expanded. The newly connected routes signify the full opening of north-south hydrogen transport channels in Sichuan, forming the backbone of the province's hydrogen network.
