The high-level dialogue session at the 2026 World Power Battery Conference was successfully held on September 2, focusing on the global competitive position of China's power battery industry.
The forum, anchored by innovation as a core driver and comprehensive market expansion as its central theme, explored two key areas: enhancing overall battery performance and technical refinement, alongside expanding multi-scenario applications and fostering industrial collaboration. The session was moderated by Ma Dejun, Chairman of the China Battery Industry Association, and featured insights from four distinguished panelists: Meng Xiangfeng, Vice President of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL); Shi Jianpeng, Deputy Chief Engineer of Dongfeng Motor Corporation; Feng Shuai, CTO of EHang Intelligent Equipment; and Gu Jie, Director of XPeng's Embodied Technology Committee and Vice President of its Powertrain Center.
Meng Xiangfeng noted that over the past decade, advancements in battery technology have transformed new energy vehicles from merely functional to highly practical, achieving significant milestones. When benchmarked against traditional fuel vehicles, electric vehicles now largely deliver comparable range and fast-charging capabilities. Looking ahead, he emphasized that continued progress in power batteries will be essential to transition new energy vehicles from practical to durable, driving further performance enhancements.
Shi Jianpeng highlighted that as new energy vehicles increasingly dominate daily transportation, the industry must achieve breakthroughs in three critical areas: reinforcing safety standards, optimizing charging infrastructure convenience, and overcoming performance degradation challenges in low-temperature environments.
Feng Shuai argued that battery development should be a comprehensive and steady improvement process. Rather than pursuing singular metric-driven goals, the industry should strike a balanced approach across safety, energy density, power output, thermal management, lifespan, and cost efficiency.
Gu Jie pointed out the strong interconnectivity between new energy vehicles, low-altitude aircraft, embodied intelligence, and humanoid robots. As batteries serve as vital core components across these systems, upstream and downstream collaboration is crucial to ensure the healthy development of these emerging industries.
Under the conference theme "Electrifying Everything: Harmonious Integration," this high-level dialogue brought together leaders from four distinct sectors — power batteries, complete vehicles, low-altitude aviation, and embodied intelligence. Through this cross-disciplinary deep discussion, the panelists jointly assessed pioneering innovation trends and explored new pathways for high-quality industrial development. As a flagship opening segment of the World Power Battery Conference, the dialogue convenes top experts, industry chain leaders, and institutional representatives to address cutting-edge technology trends and development strategies, fulfilling its multifaceted role in thought leadership, consensus building, and industry linkage.
