微软提出的这一方案正值该公司以 690 亿美元收购动视暴雪的交易面临越来越多的监管审查之际。微软在今年 1 月宣布收购动视暴雪，但是在欧盟、英国和美国遇到了监管阻力。索尼批评了这一交易，甚至呼吁监管机构否决它。

“索尼提出的潜在反竞争风险主要是，微软将停止在 PlayStation 上提供《使命召唤》，但是这在经济上是不合理的。”史密斯表示。

索尼游戏业务主管吉姆?瑞恩 (Jim Ryan) 今年 9 月表示，微软早先提出，在当前协议到期后，将动视暴雪的热门游戏系列在 PlayStation 上保留三年，这个提议不够好。
