Nippon Shokubai to Construct New Plant in Fukuoka Prefecture
Nippon Shokubai (TYO:4114) is constructing a new plant in Fukuoka Prefecture to produce LiFSI, an electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries, with operations set to begin by 2028, according to its Thursday filing.
The project, adopted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, is part of a plan to ensure a stable battery supply and involves an investment of up to 37.5 billion yen, including a 12.5 billion yen subsidy.
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of LiFSI, sufficient for lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 21.4 GWh, equivalent to 210,000 electric vehicles.
Nippon Shokubai's shares gained over 1.4% at market close.
