TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, will inaugurate the Temef Dam in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
Corporate Secretary of PT Waskita Karya, Ermy Puspa Yunita, said the Temef Dam has an inundation zone of 297.78 hectares. This dam is located in three villages in two sub-districts, namely Oenino Village with Pane Utara Village, Oenino District, and Konbaki Village, Polen District.
"The Temef Dam can hold up to 45.78 million cubic meters of water," said Ermy in a written statement on Monday, September 30, 2024.
The construction of the Temef Dam, said Ermy, is divided into four work packages. Package I was constructed by the Joint Operation (KSO) of PT Waskita-Bangunnusa. Packages II and III were constructed by the Joint Operation of PT Nindya-Bina Nusa Lestari. Meanwhile, Package IV was constructed by the Joint Operation of PT Waskita-Bahagia-Guntur.
"The construction budget was Rp2.7 trillion," said Ermy.
Furthermore, Ermy said, the Temef Dam will also function as a flood controller in the downstream area of the dam. "The Temef Dam can reduce flooding in Malaka Regency by 15 percent," she said.
In addition, Ermy added, the dam has a special feature, as it’s the first dam to utilize digital In-Place Inclinometer (IPI) technology to facilitate the construction progress.
"The concrete riprap printing process is also carried out at the project location. This process is an alternative solution that has an impact on cost savings and quality control," said Ermy.
Previously, the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, said an irrigation network was constructed along with the dam, as water availability is the key development in NTT. The region is known to have lower rainfall compared to other regions in the country.
"Thus, the dam could be beneficial because the water is guaranteed to flow to farmers' rice fields," said Basuki through an official statement on August 31, 2024. In addition to utilizing irrigation services, Temef Dam is expected to serve the domestic water needs of the community through the construction of raw water networks and water treatment plants.
