Driver-behaviour technology company Acusensus (ASX: ACE) has shifted up a gear in diversifying its business after securing a contract with construction and utilities contractor Fulton Hogan to provide its safety technology for roadworker crews in Australia and New Zealand.
While the agreement with the New Zealand-headquartered company is only worth about $400,000, Acusensus says the deal establishes a commercial foundation for broader implementation of its technology across its global markets.
The three-year contract has been described by Acusensus as a key milestone in the commercial rollout of road worker safety technology.
The Melbourne-based company’s artificial intelligence-driven technology has been developed to help protect workers through real-time monitoring, alerting and tracking within worksites.
The contract with Fulton Hogan builds on successful proof-of-concept trials conducted with the company with the technology aiming to support the digitisation of work zones by providing critical data on vehicle proximity to workers with the ultimate goal of enhancing safety and providing operational insights.
“This agreement covers the introduction of the technology to a small portion of Fulton Hogan's approximately 10,000 staff across Australia and New Zealand,” says Acusensus, a company founded and led by 2023 Australian Young Entrepreneur Awards - Trailblazer winner Alexander Jannink.
“With many staff working around roads every day, this agreement underscores Acusensus' commitment to pioneering intelligent solutions that can be rapidly deployed to address safety challenges.
“Acusensus will leverage insights from this initial deployment to refine and scale its solution across the industry, both within Fulton Hogan and beyond.”
The Acusensus technology for roadworker crews aims to enhance safety on site by converting work zones into smart, digitised environments and to enable risk and productivity management through continuous, automated, actionable and real-time data capture onsite.
Through the use of wearable devices provided to workers and camera and radar-based sensors on base stations, the solution provides real-time personal protective equipment alerts to workers, as well as automated incident reporting, predictive analytics and cloud-based site and road data subscriptions.
Since listing on the ASX in January 2023, Acusensus has expanded its driver behaviour technology comprising mobile phone and seatbelt-use detection into six Australian states and territories.
Most recently, it secured a contract in Western Australia where the company is introducing its multi-function Heads Up system that detects drivers using mobile phones and seatbelt non-compliance, while also simultaneously detecting point-to-point speed by drivers and unregistered vehicles.
Acusensus has also secured several road safety contracts in the US while in the UK it is transitioning from “proof-of-concept” pilots to longer-term engagements with potential customers.
