The Senate Intelligence Committee Monday advanced, 14-3, the nomination of John Ratcliffe, President Trump's pick to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, with the backing of four Democrats and Sen. Angus King, an independent from Maine who caucuses with the Democrats. That is a change from 2020, when Trump chose the then-congressman from Texas to be Director of National Intelligence. That time, Ratcliffe's nomination barely cleared the Senate on a 49-44 vote, with zero Democrats supporting him during what had been Trump's second attempt to name him to that post.
The lawmakers who voted against Ratcliffe on Monday included Democrats Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, according to their aides.
