The lira was quoted at 35.6500 against the U.S. dollar at 0430 GMT, after closing at 35.6150 on Tuesday.
The main BIST 100 share index closed 0.3% lower at 9,999.55 points on Tuesday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Global stocks gained on Wednesday as a flurry of new policies from U.S. President Donald Trump combined with robust corporate earnings to bolster investor optimism, while tariff uncertainty kept the dollar near two-week lows.
ERDOGAN PROGRAMME
President Tayyip Erdogan will chair a meeting of the National Security Council $(MGK)$ at his palace. (1300)
HOTEL FIRE
Turkey has detained nine people, including the owner of the hotel, in connection with a deadly fire that claimed the lives of 76 people and injured dozens at a ski resort in western Turkey, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said early Wednesday.
OPPOSITION
Turkish authorities have ramped up investigations and detentions of opposition figures, with three such actions on Monday alone, raising concerns about a widening crackdown on dissent against the government.
A Turkish court late on Tuesday ordered far-right Victory Party leader Umit Ozdag be held in custody pending trial on charges of inciting public hatred through social media, prompting widespread condemnation from opposition leaders.
POLL
Turkey's economy will grow more slowly than the authorities forecast this year and next, while inflation will prove more stubborn than predicted despite a policy-tightening drive, a Reuters poll of economists showed.
DATA
The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce the motor vehicle statistics for December 2024 and the domestic tourism statistics for households in the third quarter of 2024.
