TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s state-owned railway company, PT KAI, will hold a special Chinese New Year event at train stations across the country.
The event, titled “Imlek at Station,” will feature the barongsai dance, or Lion Dance, held simultaneously on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, aimed to promote the spirit of togetherness and exuberance to KAI customers.
KAI also distributes oranges to passengers, which symbolizes good luck, as well as holds various competitions with prizes.
The following is a list of 13 train stations where the much-awaited Lion Dance will be taking place:
KAI Vice President of Public Relations Anne Purba said that as part of the symbol of good luck and prosperity, KAI will also provide oranges to customers at two stations.
"Gambir Station, for passengers of the Argo Sindoro, Argo Semeru, Taksaka, and Argo Bromo Anggrek trains. In addition, we also distribute them at the Pasar Senen Station for passengers of the Fajar Utama Yogyakarta, Matarmaja, and Gaya Baru Malam Selatan trains," she said in an official statement on Tuesday, January 28.
KAI also holds a photo and video competition with the theme "Chinese New Year Celebration at the Station" with an executive and luxury train ticket voucher as the prize.
The winners of the competition will be announced on February 10, 2025, via the official social media @kai121. In addition, KAI is also holding a Chinese New Year Quiz on Instagram Story @kai121 on January 27–29, 2025, where the winners will be awarded with interesting merchandise.
