美国总统特朗普2月9日表示，将于10日宣布对所有进口到美国的钢铁和铝征收25%的关税。此外，他预定在11日或12日宣布对等关税（reciprocal tariffs），并将几乎立即生效。
特朗普7日在华府与日本首相石破茂会面后，在共同记者会上也预告，将在本星期将宣布对多国开征对等关税，使美国与其他国家得到平等对待。
他未直接透露会受到影响的国家，但有媒体指，特朗普料锁定有较大贸易逆差的国家，目标包括中国、印度等。
与此同时，为反制特朗普的加征关税措词，根据中国财政部2月6日宣布，将自10日起对部分美国进口商品加征关税。
其中，进口煤炭与液化天然气（LNG）等8类商品，将被加征15%的关税，而原油、农业设备及大排量车辆等72类商品，将被额外征收10%关税。
