Lockton lines up Costin as aviation head

By Michael Jones

Feb 10 - (The Insurer) - Lockton has hired Mark Costin as head of aviation, The Insurer can reveal.

Costin, who most recently spent almost two years as commercial director at Insurwave, will join the broker upon completion of his notice period.

Prior to Insurwave, he served as senior partner at Piiq Risk Partners, a role he exited in 2022.

Before joining Piiq, Costin worked at Marsh for almost 18 years across a number of senior roles, including as CEO of its aviation business.

He also spent eight years at WTW, which included a stint as an executive director.

In a comment to The Insurer, Insurwave said: “We can confirm that Mark Costin, our commercial director, will be leaving Insurwave. We sincerely thank Mark for his contributions, particularly in helping to further our presence in the aviation sector. We wish Mark all the best in his future endeavours.”

Costin’s hire comes after several senior members of Lockton's aviation broking team departed the firm to join to Cogent International.

The Insurer revealed last week that former head of aviation Tim Liddiard, client relationship manager Andrew Cameron, executive director Nigel Baker and senior vice president Doug Ogilvie had all made the move to Cogent as part of its expansion into aviation.

These moves continued a busy start to the year in the aviation talent market.

In January, this publication revealed that UIB’s Miles Taffs was set to join Liberty Specialty Markets at the end of Q1. UIB appointed Marek Ambrozewski as Taffs’ successor.

Other recent moves include Beazley appointing Sebastian Lotz as DACH aviation underwriter, DAC Beachcroft naming Maria Cetta as a partner within its aviation practice and Scor P&C naming AIG’s Arta Nasradini as head of aviation.

Lockton was approached for comment.
