据《华尔街日报》报道，特朗普政府正在调整美国移民与海关执法局的领导层，预计很快将宣布新任代理局长人选。本月早些时候，美国移民与海关执法局另外两名负责驱逐非法移民工作的高级官员也被免职。
美国媒体报道称，特朗普政府对驱逐非法移民的进度感到失望。美国有线电视新闻网本月7日援引特朗普政府一名官员的话报道说，美国移民与海关执法局只是在“应付差事”，远远落后于既定目标。
美国全国广播公司7日援引三名消息人士的话报道说，特朗普对在其上任头几周内美国驱逐非法移民数量不够多而感到愤怒。
美国移民与海关执法局隶属国土安全部。国土安全部数据显示，特朗普上任后首月内，美国驱逐了37660人。拜登政府最后一年每月平均驱逐57000人。
自上任以来，特朗普签署多道行政令，宣布南部边境进入紧急状态，全面制止非法移民入境，宣布将废除非法移民或合法临时居留者在美出生子女的“出生公民权”。他还宣布在古巴关塔那摩美国海军基地扩建已有的非法移民收容中心。与此同时，美国用飞机强制向拉美国家遣返非法移民，给移民戴上手铐脚镣，招致国际社会谴责。
