Qantas has declared its first dividend since the COVID-19 pandemic after a jump in profits for the first half of the financial year, a bumper result that was helped by Jetstar and the delivery of new, more efficient aircraft.
But the airline is grappling with the overhaul of its fleet, as it moves from ageing Boeing 737s to bigger Airbus aircraft, which it hopes will help it deliver higher margins amid intense competition with Virgin Australia.
