HSBC to Sell $1.5 Billion Worth of Convertible Bonds on Feb. 27

HSBC (HKG:0005) plans to issue $1.5 billion of 6.95% perpetual subordinated contingent convertible securities on Feb. 27, a Tuesday filing with the Hong Kong bourse said.

The lenders intend to sell the securities to at least six placees. The securities are convertible into a maximum of around 439,277,243 shares at $3.4147 apiece.

The securities will be traded on the Global Exchange Market of The Irish Stock Exchange. The firm will use proceeds from the issue for general corporate purposes and to maintain or further strengthen its capital base.

Shares of the lender were up nearly 2% in recent trade.
