1840 ET - Urban Outfitters' namesake brand hasn't yet identified the right sauce to win back its North American consumer. Retail comparable sales for the brand declined around 3% in the fourth quarter, and North America remained in negative territory. Overall, the brand saw an improvement in this key metric from the 14% drop seen in the year-earlier period due to the high single digit positive rate in Europe. The brand also saw a continued reduction in its operating loss compared to last year, mainly driven by less discounting. "As we start the new year, the team, the team is pivoting to a renewed focus on growth, beginning with regular price growth within women's apparel," Operating Chief Frank Conforti says on a call with analysts, adding that the brand will also introduce athleisure clothing.
