Venus Metals (ASX:VMC) said assay results from stage one drilling at the historical Hilltop gold mine, as well as for ongoing rock chip sampling programs at Hilltop and regional targets at its Henderson gold project in Western Australia returned "encouraging" results, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.

Reverse circulation drill holes from below shallow historical shafts at the Hilltop gold mine tested gold mineralization and returned assays of four meters at 10.3 grams-per-tonne grade of gold from 24 meters and four meters at 2.82 g/t grade of gold from 50 meters of depth.

It is planning a second-stage reverse circulation drilling program at Hilltop.

The firm's shares rose 10% on market close on Tuesday.
