UniCredit's Delay in Deciding on Commerzbank Deal Is Welcome -- Market Talk

1359 GMT - UniCredit's decision to consider a longer time frame for a possible takeover of Commerzbank is welcome in light of its bid for Banco BPM at home, Equita says in a note. Today, the Italian lender gained ECB approval to raise its stake in its German peer to 29.9%. UniCredit said that taking a decision on whether to move forward with a potential acquisition would go beyond the end of 2025. This is positive as it would allow UniCredit time to integrate Banco BPM if that deal goes through, analyst Andrea Lisi writes. Once UniCredit gets approval to convert the part of Commerzbank's stake it holds through derivatives into physical shares, it should be able to impact the German bank's governance and explore possible partnerships, with Greece's Alpha Bank for example, he adds.
