Mediobanca to Assess Deals After MPS Bid Outcome, CEO Says -- Market Talk

1141 GMT - Mediobanca will evaluate how to use its excess capital and its stake in insurer Generali for M&A deals once there is clarity on the outcome of the takeover bid from Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the Italian bank's CEO says at a London conference. Once investors have decided whether they want to pursue the standalone route or combine with MPS, the group will try to engage to see whether there is room for consolidation, Alberto Nagel says. In its corporate and investment bank, Mediobanca could expand into new verticals and geographies only if they are considered strategic. In consumer, it will focus on bolt-on deals and fintech partnerships while it could also look at wealth-management deals, he adds. (elena.vardon@wsj.com)
