BOE Rate Cut in May Likely But Not Guaranteed -- Market Talk

0832 GMT - The Bank of England is likely to cut interest rates at the next meeting in May, although this is not a given, Barclays' Moyeen Islam says in a note. The BOE faces weak growth and rising inflation, which complicates its work of lowering inflation to the 2% medium term target, he says. Markets price in a 46% probability of a BOE rate cut in May, LSEG data show. If the BOE leaves rates unchanged in May, markets could "begin to question the appetite of the committee to deliver further cutting this year", Islam says. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
