Comcast's (CMCSA) Spectrum Mobile and Charter Communications' (CHTR) Xfinity Mobile started a satellite-based service in partnership with Skylo, a nonterrestrial network provider.

The service is available on Samsung Galaxy S25 and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google Pixel 9 enabling emergency messaging when no cellular or WiFi connection is available, while satellite-based short message service is expected in the coming weeks, Comcast and Charter said Thursday in a statement.

Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile customers currently have satellite backup on select Apple (AAPL) and Google devices, provided directly by the manufacturers. Skylo's satellite services will also support the business mobile services of both companies.
