Seven & I Has a Plan B If a Couche-Tard Deal Doesn't Go Through -- Market Talk

1420 ET - Seven & I says it isn't just waiting on a potential Couche-Tard deal to maximize its value for shareholders. In a statement, the Japanese operator of 7-Eleven says it is working closely with the Circle K owner to "explore the possibility of a viable divestiture path to ensure that any potential sale transaction can be completed if agreed upon." However, the looming antitrust issues may be too much of an obstacle to overcome, and Seven & I is mulling its options, especially after a management buyout had fallen through. Its other option is a stand-alone plan with Stephen Dacus as CEO. "We are confident this dual track approach is the best way for us to deliver to shareholders and other stakeholders the value they deserve," it says. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
