Sovereign Metals (ASX:SVM) said several geotechnical drilling programs have begun at its Kasiya rutile-graphite project in Malawi, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

The programs are expected to be completed in the coming weeks and the results will support layout and engineering design for the definitive feasibility study for the project, which is due in the fourth quarter, the filing said.

The infrastructure covered by the geotechnical programs includes the processing plant areas, the tailings storage facility area, the raw water storage dam, the Kasiya substation, and other mining infrastructure.

The selected locations are based on the findings of the optimized pre-feasibility study.

Its shares fell 2% in recent trading on Wednesday.
