TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has recently received a visit from the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2025.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said the meeting discussed several collaborations that will be formalized in a memorandum of understanding or MoU. Russia hopes the Indonesian government will add more flights to Moscow.

"They inquired about which destinations are suitable for direct flights from Moscow," said Airlangga, who accompanied Prabowo in meeting Manturov at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Not only that, Russia also wants a financial system that facilitates tourists to travel to Indonesia. According to Airlangga, Russia wants an agreed-upon mechanism between the two countries.

The meeting also discussed cooperation in the development of the investment sector. The Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement was also discussed. Russia, Airlangga said, hopes that the agreement points can be finalized when Prabowo attends the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg in June 2025.

"It is expected that when the President goes to St. Petersburg, all the material within the discussion of Eurasia can be concluded," Airlangga said.

Airlangga Hartarto stated that negotiating the free trade agreement (FTA) between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is in the final stages. The EAEU economic bloc consists of five former Soviet Union countries, namely Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

"The Eurasia FTA is almost completed, so maybe we are in the final round, similar to the EU (European Union)," Airlangga said after attending the Russia-Indonesia business forum at the Raffles Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Airlangga stated that President Prabowo Subianto requested the FTA to be completed by the first semester. After that, the government must finalize the agreement documents or undergo legal scrubbing. "Legal scrubbing is more detailed and lengthy," he said.

The points discussed in the agreement include tariff and non-tariff barriers related to investment guarantees.

Airlangga Hartarto previously said that President Prabowo Subianto will visit Russia in June 2025. Airlangga stated that the head of state will visit Russia to discuss the free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) economic bloc. The EAEU economic bloc consists of five former Soviet Union countries such as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
