United Auto Workers union members at General Dynamics Electric Boat have voted to authorize a strike.

The union said in a post to X on Tuesday that members are holding a massive rally in Groton, Conn., in a "major escalation."

The strike comes amid negotiations after the union members' contracts expired April 4.

The union represents over 2,000 marine draftsmen and women at the global aerospace and defense company's Electric Boat unit, which designs and manufactures nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy.
