Santana Minerals (ASX:SMI, NZE:SMI) said plans to refine its initial pre-feasibility study for its Bendigo-Ophir project in New Zealand have been focused on selective and manual pit designs on the Rise and Shine deposit, according to a Tuesday filing with the Australian bourse.

The company aims to improve open pit staging, focusing on the extraction of the High-Grade domain resource subset, and estimate the minimum necessary overburden removal for the sustainable supply of ore for processing, the filing said.

Work on modifying factors related to ore dilution and the next phases of open pit and underground mining is underway, per the filing.

The company's shares rose past 4% in Australia in morning trade Tuesday, while its Kiwi shares surged almost 7%.
