Gold prices have been on a tear. Some traders are wagering the run will continue.
There's been a rush into options bets that would likely pay out if prices kept rising. Trading in call options tied to one of the largest gold exchange-traded funds-trades that give the right to buy shares at a given price, by a stated date-surged to an all-time high late last week.
The frenzy of trading underscores the intense fear in markets right now, with few places to hide from the turmoil. U.S. stocks are tumbling. So are Treasurys and the U.S. dollar.
Gold prices have notched record after record.
