Producers of metals and other raw materials rose as gold futures hit more records.

Gold futures set a fresh record high, briefly topping $3500-an-ounce as concerns around the Federal Reserve's independence and the global economic outlook intensify, and the bull run looks set to continue.

Canadian gold-mining giant Barrick Gold entered a deal to sell its stake in an Alaskan gold project for as much as $1.1 billion to affiliates of billionaire John Paulson's Paulson Advisers and Novagold Resources, bolstering its balance sheet at a time when the precious metal is trading at a record high.
