Konica Minolta (TYO:4902) will produce a moisture-blocking film to double the lifespan of flexible perovskite solar panels to 20 years, aiming to start sample shipments in fiscal 2026 and full production by 2027, Nikkei reported Wednesday.
The company is pivoting from office equipment to solar tech, applying its materials expertise to tap a market projected to reach 2.4 trillion yen by 2040, according the report.
Japan sees perovskite cells as key to energy security and reducing reliance on Chinese imports, the report said.
