U.S. natural gas inventories likely increased by slightly more than average last week with mild spring weather keeping demand low early in the injection season.
Gas in underground storage is expected to have risen by 62 billion cubic feet to 1,908 Bcf in the week ended April 18, according to the average estimate of 10 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from an injection of 53 Bcf to an injection of 77 Bcf.
The expected increase compares with a five-year average build for the week of 58 Bcf, and would narrow the deficit against the 2020-2024 average to 70 Bcf from 74 Bcf the week before. Storage would be 504 Bcf below the year-earlier level.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to report weekly natural gas inventories on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
