Amcor (ASX:AMC) found that European consumers see a brand's packaging recyclability messaging as the most influential factor in their purchasing decisions, according to the packaging manufacturer's study released Tuesday.
Eighty-four percent of surveyed consumers said they check on-pack instructions for proper waste disposal. Most consumers also said they are aware of what recycling labels mean, with 72% of respondents saying they understand paper-based packaging claims.
In terms of messaging, consumers respond most positively to claims that relate to "recyclable packaging," followed by "compostable packaging," "packaging made of recycled materials," and "paper-based packaging," the study found.
Further, 18% of shoppers said they are willing to spend more for paper-based packaging.
